Diadem | Box Hill Central

Client & Scope

Formul8 was engaged by Diadem to address excessive glare and heat at Box Hill Central by installing TDS240 solar window film to the internal glass roof. The project required after-hours work at 9 pm, with security in place and a 14-metre boom lift to access high glazing. Protective drop sheets were used to safeguard vendor ceilings, and precision trimming ensured seamless coverage with no light leaks. The film provided effective glare reduction, UV protection, and improved energy efficiency for the centre.

Our approach

Safe High-Access Installation

To access the elevated pyramid-shaped glass roof, Formul8 used a lightweight spider boom lift operated remotely. This ensured both safety and floor load compliance on the suspended concrete slab while allowing precise access to hard-to-reach sections.

Navigating Tight Spaces

The retail setting posed spatial challenges, with escalators and active tenancies limiting equipment placement. Our team carefully maneuvered around these obstacles to position the boom lift without disrupting the centre’s layout or damaging fixtures.

Precision in Low Light Conditions

Operating at night required a meticulous approach. With reduced visibility, our installers conducted thorough cleaning and precise film application to deliver a flawless finish—meeting both performance and visual expectations.

Quality-Driven Execution

Given the high visibility of the glass roof from the rooftop car park, there was no margin for error. Formul8 prioritised precision trimming, gap-free coverage, and clean lines to meet Diadem’s aesthetic and functional standards.

our Reflection

To address these challenges, the team:

  1. Conducted Detailed Planning: Assessing the site and completing a comprehensive plan ensured smooth execution despite many constraints.

  2. Utilised Specialised Equipment: Employing a remote-controlled spider boom lift facilitated safe access to high areas that was light enough that it wouldn’t risk overloading the suspended concrete floor.

  3. Executed Precise Installation: Taking the time and care to apply the film accurately and thoroughly minimised the risk of gaps or blemishes.

  4. Performed Quality Checks: Regular inspections ensured the film met visual standards and performance expectations.

Although there were many challenges to overcome, the team come together and ensured that the quality of the install was met. Overall, installing, TDS240 film achieved the following:

  1. Experienced a significant reduction in glare by 83%
  2. The film effectively blocked harmful UV rays by over 98%
  3. By regulating heat transfer, the film contributed to improved energy efficiency and cost savings.

Through careful planning, precise execution, and rigorous quality control, the team achieved a positive outcome, improving comfort, energy efficiency, and aesthetics for all stakeholders involved.
