Amicus

Client & Scope

Amicus is a national workplace design and construction firm delivering agile, future-ready spaces across the commercial, education, and healthcare sectors. For one of their clients, they managed a major refurbishment of Trenerry Place, a heritage-listed commercial building featuring more than 1,400 colonial-style windows.

Amicus needed a solution that would improve the building’s thermal performance while preserving its architectural character. With a six-week timeline and multiple trades onsite, they turned to Formul8 to deliver a high-performance solar film installation that could meet engineering specs, boost energy efficiency, and support occupant comfort all without disrupting the fitout schedule.

Our approach

Specified 3M Low-E 20 Film

We recommended 3M Low-E 20, a solar control window film that balances thermal insulation and UV protection. It’s ideal for heritage buildings where appearance and efficiency must co-exist.

Installed to 1,400+ Windows

The film was expertly applied to all external windows across the building. The goal: trap warmth in winter and reflect heat in summer delivering year-round comfort and cost savings.

Met Engineer Requirements

We supplied film performance data to satisfy engineering and compliance requirements. This ensured all thermal, solar, and aesthetic criteria were confidently met.

Worked Around Agile Scheduling

With multiple trades onsite, we coordinated closely with the Amicus team to avoid clashes and streamline access. A detailed project schedule ensured smooth, efficient progress.

Addressed Fragile Frame Conditions

The original colonial putty frames posed a challenge. We flagged this early, increased resourcing where needed, and relied on our most experienced installers to stay on schedule.

Completed Within a Six-Week Timeline

By adjusting labour and front-loading high-risk areas, we delivered the majority of works within the six-week window without compromising finish quality.

Our approach

The 3M Low-E film installation delivered immediate benefits: improved thermal performance, reduced energy consumption, and enhanced year-round comfort all while preserving the building’s heritage aesthetic.

By planning early, staying flexible onsite, and partnering closely with the Amicus team, we ensured the project stayed on time and met every technical requirement. This solution not only supported the sustainable goals of the refurbishment but also delivered long-term cost savings for the building’s occupants.
